DWG to DXF Converter

Upload your DWG drawing, choose a coordinate system and get a DXF file to open in other CAD software or tools that only read DXF.

Step 1: Choose a file

Step 2: Choose output format

The DXF keeps the drawing's own coordinates, so no coordinate system is needed.

DWG and DXF explained

DWG

AutoCAD's native binary drawing format, holding layers, lines, polylines and text.

DXF

An open CAD interchange format readable by most CAD and GIS software.

When to use DWG to DXF

  • The server reads DWG files from R13 to 2018, so you do not need AutoCAD installed.
  • Open a DWG in other CAD or GIS software, or in software that only reads DXF.
  • Hand a drawing to someone without AutoCAD while keeping the drawing structure.
  • You want an intermediate CAD file before processing it yourself. To see it on a map, pick KML, KMZ or SHP.

What carries over and what changes

AspectIn the DXF result
LayersThe layer structure of the source drawing is kept.
Geometry typesStill the original CAD objects (lines, arcs, hatches, text, blocks and so on), not turned into GIS points, lines and polygons.
Curves and arcsNot flattened: arcs and circles are not converted to straight segments.
Text and blocksText and blocks are kept as far as the DWG decoder can read them; rare objects may not decode, so open the result in your CAD software to check.
AttributesNot processed separately; whatever the DWG decoder yields.
Colours and stylesNot processed separately; whatever the DWG decoder yields.
Z / elevationCoordinates are not transformed, so Z is left alone.
CRSNot applied: the DXF keeps the drawing's own coordinates and the CRS selector has no effect on the result.
Format specificsDWG input only; DXF to DXF is not a conversion.

Why is my drawing in the wrong place?

  • DXF output does not change coordinates: it keeps the numbers of the source drawing and attaches no CRS.
  • So a DXF does not land in the right place on a map by itself; it is only right when the target software knows the drawing's CRS.
  • To see it on a map, choose KML, KMZ or SHP and pick the drawing's CRS.

What's in the download

  • One .dxf file, named like <drawing name>_iQuyHoach_DXF.dxf.
  • Upload a ZIP (up to 20 drawings) and the results are packaged together in one ZIP.

Security and retention

  • Your file is uploaded to our server over HTTPS and processed on the server.
  • The drawing and results of a finished conversion are deleted automatically after 7 days.
  • The download link is a long random ID; no account is needed, but anyone with the link can download for 7 days, so do not post it publicly if the drawing is sensitive.
  • If a conversion fails we keep the file so we can fix the cause and run it again.
  • Each IP address runs one conversion at a time; a ZIP batch holds up to 20 drawings and 300 MB uncompressed.
  • Email is optional and is used to send the download link (and to tell you if processing failed).
  • Limits: 100 MB per upload; ZIP batches of up to 20 drawings.

FAQ

Is DWG to DXF free?

Yes, convert DWG to DXF online without AutoCAD.

Which coordinate system should I choose?

For VN2000 drawings pick the province or enter the central meridian; choose WGS84 if the data is already lon/lat, or enter a custom EPSG code.

What are the limits?

Up to 100 MB per upload; ZIP batches up to 20 drawings and 300 MB uncompressed; one conversion at a time per IP address; files are deleted automatically after 7 days.

Can I output DXF from DXF?

No, DXF output is only available for DWG input.
