DWG and PDF explained

DWG

AutoCAD's native binary drawing format, holding layers, lines, polylines and text.

PDF

A file to view and print a drawing on any device. Here it is a vector PDF on white paper, every CAD layer is a PDF layer you can switch on and off in Acrobat, Foxit or a browser; Vietnamese text looks right on any computer.

When to use DWG to PDF

  • The server reads DWG files from R13 to 2018, so you do not need AutoCAD installed.
  • Send a drawing to a client, partner or approving authority who can view it on a phone or computer without AutoCAD.
  • Put a drawing on a website or document system: choose the online purpose for a light, fast-opening file.
  • Print a drawing on A4 to A0 paper: choose the print purpose for the exact paper size, a standard 1:N scale printed on the sheet and correct line weights.

What carries over and what changes

AspectIn the PDF result
LayersEach CAD layer becomes a PDF layer (Optional Content Group) of the same name, accents included; switch layers on and off in Acrobat, Foxit or a browser. You can also get every layer as its own PDF in one ZIP.
Geometry typesStays vector: lines, arcs, polylines, hatches, solids, blocks, dimensions, leaders. Pattern hatches are redrawn as lines; very dense ones are filled solid.
Curves and arcsArcs, circles and splines stay curves (Bézier), not cut into straight segments.
Text and blocksTEXT, MTEXT and dimension text are converted to outlines so they look right on any computer, even when a CAD font (.shx) is not available (DejaVu Sans stands in); you cannot select or search the text in the PDF.
AttributesNo CAD attributes are carried apart from the layer name.
Colours and stylesWhite paper; the ACI 7 pen prints black; white or ACI 7 fills stay paper. Line weights follow the drawing: print uses the exact weight (minimum 0.05 mm), online uses at least 0.1 mm so lines stay visible on screen. Black-and-white is available.
Z / elevation2D only: a top view, Z values are not written.
CRSNot applied: a PDF is a drawing on paper with no coordinate system; the CRS selector has no effect. The print purpose prints a 1:N scale only when the drawing units are metric (mm, cm, dm, m, km) and the size is plausible; otherwise the drawing is fitted to the sheet and marked as scale unknown.
Format specificsA4, A3, A1 or A0, landscape or portrait as the drawing needs. If the drawing has a paper layout with viewports it uses that layout, otherwise model space.

Why does my PDF look wrong?

  • Drawing looks off, missing lines or blank areas? The PDF is built from model space, or from the paper layout when the drawing has viewports; a drawing with external references (xrefs) needs them bound before uploading.
  • White (or ACI 7) fills stay white paper, so they can cover linework beneath them, exactly like the original drawing.
  • A few stray objects far from the main drawing are left out so the drawing is not shrunk too much; a broken object or a missing block is skipped on its own.

What's in the download

  • One .pdf file, named like <drawing name>_iQuyHoach_PDF.pdf; or, if you choose one file per layer, a ZIP with the full PDF and a lop/ folder holding one PDF per layer on the same page and scale.
  • The result page shows the page size, layer count and print scale; the e-mail (if you leave an address) carries a quick-look image of your drawing and of the PDF's first page.
  • Upload a ZIP (up to 20 drawings) and the results are packaged together in one ZIP.

Security and retention

  • Your file is uploaded to our server over HTTPS and processed on the server.
  • The drawing and results of a finished conversion are deleted automatically after 7 days.
  • The download link is a long random ID; no account is needed, but anyone with the link can download for 7 days, so do not post it publicly if the drawing is sensitive.
  • If a conversion fails we keep the file so we can fix the cause and run it again.
  • Each IP address runs one conversion at a time; a ZIP batch holds up to 20 drawings and 300 MB uncompressed.
  • Email is optional and is used to send the download link (and to tell you if processing failed).
  • Limits: 100 MB per upload; ZIP batches of up to 20 drawings.

FAQ

Is DWG to PDF free?

Yes, convert DWG to PDF online without AutoCAD.

What are the limits?

Up to 100 MB per upload; ZIP batches up to 20 drawings and 300 MB uncompressed; one conversion at a time per IP address; files are deleted automatically after 7 days.

Online or print?

Online gives a compact, fast-opening file that fits the screen. Print keeps the exact paper size and line weights and adds a frame, a scale bar and a standard 1:N scale when the drawing units are known.

What does layer export do?

Every CAD layer is always a PDF layer you can toggle. If you also choose one file per layer you get a ZIP with a PDF per layer on the same page and scale (up to 300 layers with content).

Is the text searchable?

No: text is converted to outlines so Vietnamese looks right on any computer.
